Trip to Westport

Took a trip down to the western part of Washington and discovered a port about 30 minutes out from the city of Aberdeen. There we set up on the shore and cast our lines with a 6-ounce Weight. Unfortunately, There was no sign of a catch that day, and we were all just skunk fishing. The temperature was fairly decent; however, there was a slight drizzle.

I utilized a tarp that was sitting in the back of my truck and started to push some tent poles through the edge holes of the tarp in order to make a small canopy. Mother Nature was quick to realize that it was a poor design and DIY setup. The poles were swinging back and forth making it quite unsteady, the rain was just piling up, and in the end, it turned out to be more of a problem than a solution.

After this small adventure, I decided to do a little research into what kind of portable tarp would be suitable for this issue. After searching on the web I stumbled upon a product called the Kelty Waypoint Tarp. The Kelty Waypoint is a tarp built to attach to your vehicle; the steps are as easy as attaching both corners of the tarp to the back of your two tires and setting up a pole center of the tarp to provide for that sturdy design. At a price of $145, this product covers over 120 square feet of area, protecting you from rain wind, and sun wherever you go.

This product is compatible with my vehicle a Dodge Ram 1500; however, if you have a minivan or SUV you should consider the GOTIDY Car Awning. This tarp is a bit cheaper, covers 106" of space, and attaches to the roof of the vehicle with magnetic suction cups. The best part about this product is its ability to be dual purpose meaning, you don't necessarily need it to attach to the vehicle it can also stand on its own as a canopy. you can get this set up all for $100 and have it sent to your home with free shipping.

These are some pretty affordable products that can keep you out of the rain and away from the heat. Both products are UV-resistant and quick to set up. If I had one of these tarps I probably would have had more time to focus on changing my lures than fixing to find a way to not get wet. In the end, it was a fun trip and made way for a hike that resulted in really good photos. The motivation came from remembering that E is for Explore.
